What happens when a company known for its self tan products launches a skincare range? Bondi Sands did just that last month, and co-founder Blair James answered some questions about the venture.
Why skincare? Everyday Skincare is a natural progression for Bondi Sands; we've always been a skin-first brand, paving the way in the self tan, sun care and body categories through innovative formulas. Everyday Skincare is an evolution of this.
How do the products differ from others on the market? With so many skincare products in market, we wanted to ensure simplicity in range education and really thought through each colour and shape to segment our products into categories.
Who are the new products aimed at? When we created this range, we had in mind our core consumers - the Gen Zs and Millennials that are both our die-hard Bondi Babes, as well as new consumers who hadn't yet shopped with us before.
How is creating a self tan product similar to skincare and how's it different?
Self tan is quite unique, in that the formulas can be quite volatile; there are a limited number of ingredients that can work synergistically with DHA (a common ingredient in tanning products), so it's not so simple and straightforward when it comes to pairing ingredients together.
Skincare can also be challenging to perfect to ensure it suits all skin types and provides results, but with so many ingredients to choose from, it's easier to switch ingredients out to create unique formats that will produce a similar outcome.
Did you feel pressure to perform? We knew that this would be a great next step for Bondi Sands. With every product and range we launch, our heart and soul goes into it.
So far, the response from our community has been overwhelmingly positive, and we're really proud of our first few steps into the journey of Everyday Skincare.
