Demons breaking the premiership drought was a big win for the fans

The Good Light: AFL at the MCG is a must for sport lovers

What an amazing spectacle was the 2021 AFL Grand Final! The Demons' 'curse' was lifted after 57 years.

Their first premiership since 1964.

Captain Max Gawn and especially Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca and Jack Viney played an exemplary game.

The decisive win was a massive 74 points over the Bulldogs.

Because of Covid the game was played in Perth.

I had the good fortune in May 2019 to photograph a Demons' winning match against Hawthorne at the MCG.

The atmosphere was electric. It was for me like entering what the coliseum must have been like back in the day.

These AFL players are superb athletes and the crowd was amazingly good humoured.

The many thousands of devoted fans bedecked in blue and red inside on the bleachers or walking to catch trains afterwards were the most quiet and well-mannered I have ever seen.

Once in your life try to see an AFL match at the MCG.
