Racing
For some weeks now at Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) we have been considering our options around the scheduling of the TAB Million Dollar Chase series.
Our premier event, which culminates with a $1 million prize to the winner of the grand final in September, is the richest greyhound race in the world, but obviously with the current COVID-19 situation throughout the State, particularly in Greater Sydney and surrounds, decisions needed to be made, and this week GRNSW decided to delay the start of the series.
The series, which winds its way around 16 regional venues conducting heats and finals before the semi-finals and grand final, was originally set to commence on Sunday, August 8 at Temora, but we have pushed it back a week, to now commence at Dubbo on Saturday, August 14.
Other regional series to be moved as a result of the rescheduling are Bathurst, Nowra, Lismore, Gosford, and Wagga Wagga. All those events, plus Temora, have been rescheduled and will still be a part of the series. For full details head to www.thedogs.com.au.
Celebration time
Congratulations from everyone at GRNSW to Secretary-Manager Glenn Midson, his club's committee, and his team at the Shoalhaven Greyhound Club at Nowra which celebrated its 50th anniversary on July 30.
Around 60 people attended the inaugural Members' meeting on this day back in 1971 in the Nowra School of Arts Hall, where the club was founded, and through the tireless work of volunteers within the club working on the track and amenities, the racing commenced at the club on January 30, 1976.
Olympic touch
I want to also send my congratulations to Olympic paddler Jess Fox for her fantastic medal winning performance at the Tokyo Olympic Games this week.
Jess fosters a greyhound called Pink through our Greyhounds As Pets (GAP) organisation, and has been a huge supporter and advocate of GAP and the work they do for some time now.
We're all very proud of Jess, a medal winner now at three successive Olympic Games.
Winner winner
We had some impressive performances from a few of our trainers across the weekend, with Jason Mackay winning five races at Ladbrokes Gardens last Friday, then the following night Charmaine Roberts won four races at the Dubbo meeting, then Gary Smith winning four at the new Grafton track on Sunday.
And also 18-year-old Jorja Howard who had a winning double at Maitland on Monday night with just her second and third starters. A bright future ahead for young Jorja.
Congratulations to all.
