Burringbar's Pocket Herbs recognised in delicious awards

Local producer wins gold for native ingredient

Burringbar's Pocket Herbs is a national winner in the Delicious Produce Awards, awarded gold for karkalla, a native food ingredient launched earlier this year.

Karkalla - also known as pigface - is a succulent commonly found among sand dunes on the coastline, with a a flavour described as light and sweet, and similar to strawberries or fresh figs.

The product was launched by Pocket Herbs as part of a new partnership with Currie Country, one of the Tweed's traditional owner families.

The collaboration aims to create a knowledge base, enhance the use of native foods and bring a new awareness, texture and taste to tables. The Currie Country Range also includes saltbush, samphire and river mint.

Pocket Herbs supplies to restaurants, caterers and grocers.
