TWO of the region's favourite concert bands will fight it out for musical supremacy in an upcoming music event in Ballina.
Lismore and Ballina will take to the stage in the 'Battle of the Concert Bands', in the carpark of the Ballina Homemaker Centre from 10am on June 20.
The free public event has been organised by local music store Resonator Music as part of Make Music Day global celebrations.
Held on the same day in more than 750 cities in 120 countries across the globe, Make Music Day is 'a musical free-for-all' that celebrates music in all its forms, encouraging people to band together and play in free public concerts. The Ballina 'battle' will be streamed online with other concerts from all over the world.
Tweed Shire Concert Band and a support act will start things off, before Lismore and Ballina go head to head on two stages.
Formed in 1883 and boasting about 30 members, Ballina Concert Band has age and size on its side, but Lismore band leader Ben van Kleef says they'll make up for their lesser numbers with 'a bit more intimacy and subtlety.'
"It's not really about rivalry though," says Ballina band leader Laurie Green: "It's about making music."
