Hundreds turned out this morning for a paddle out protest against Netflix's recently announced docu-soap, Byron Baes.

Organisers say the paddle out was to formally request that Netflix cancels the show immediately.

Many locals, including the mayor, don't want it filmed and say it's just the kind of attention the town doesn't need given the current housing affordability crisis.

There are also concerns it will damage the town's reputation.

A petition to boycott the show by refusing filming permits has so far gathered more than 7500 signatures and some businesses are refusing to allow the crew to film on their premises.
