Lismore City Council is encouraging a diverse range of people to stand as candidates in the local government elections in September 2021. The council says it wants a council that reflects community demographics and councillors who can bring new and important perspectives to the table. It will be running two information sessions in March, one specifically for women interested in becoming councillors and one for the whole community. The women-focused session will be held at the Lismore City Hall from 9.30am-12pm, and on zoom, on March 6, as part of the YWCA's Lismore Women's Festival. It will be facilitated by Cassandra Coleman, president of Australian Local Government Women's Association, who will be joined by past councillors Jenny Dowell, Sue Meehan and Diana Roberts. The session for all prospective candidates will be held on Thursday, March 25, at the Lismore Regional Gallery. Registration for both sessions is available at https://yoursay.lismore.nsw.gov.au/
Former Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell will be a guest at an upcoming information session aimed at encouraging women to run for council
