Roberts, 32, will link up with Northern United in what will be his first taste of NRRRL.
Born in Grafton, Roberts went on to play junior rugby league at Ballina before making his NRL debut with the Newcastle Knights in 2011.
He played 158 NRL games at the Brisbane Broncos, Gold Coast Titans and Knights between 2011 and 2022.
Roberts will be the clubs biggest signing in the halves since dual international Andrew Walker linked up with the club a decade ago.
"Tyrone brings with him a wealth of experience and leadership that will assist our team, club and community," United said after announcing his signing.
"(He) has played for a number of years with the NRL, Super League, NSWRL as well as Queensland Cup.
"Tyrone has also played in the representative scene with NSW Country as well as the NRL Indigenous All Stars.
"A proud family man with a great sense of pride in culture and community, we believe Tyrone is a great addition this season for our club and community.
"We believe Tyrone's beliefs run parallel to the clubs vision and achieving success on and off the field."
Roberts last played NRL in 2022 with the Brisbane Broncos.
He won a second straight Queensland Cup premiership with Norths Devils that same year.
They finished third under coach Chris Binge, playing finals for the first time in a number of seasons.
It took eventual premiers Cudgen to defeat them 28-20 in the second week of the play-offs.
United has re-signed most of its players from 2023 including fullback and NRRRL player of the year Hezekiah McKenzie.
Prolific try-scorer Alan McKenzie and experienced lock Theo Hippi are back while Binge will coach again.
Elsewhere, former NRL player Todd Carney will captain-coach Byron Bay again this season.
Kyogle could be set for a big season having signed fullback Oliver Regan from Bilambil and five-eighth Ryan Walker from Casino.
Most teams have returned to preseason training with the competition to start in April.
